When should my child start learning an instrument?

A common question asked by so many parents these days is what age should a child start learning an instrument.

In my opinion it is when the child wants to start learning. There is no point forcing a child to practice when they don't have any desire to learn. This would most likely have the opposite reaction to what is intended a would completely turn the child away. What should be happening is positive encouragement. By all means encourage your child to learn a musical instrument and become interested in music, but if they refuse don't force it upon them as they probably aren't enjoying it at all and would rather be doing something they like doing.

We are all very different people and not everyone likes to learn a string instrument. Be patient and support what ever your child wants to pursue in life.
