How to practice scales

Scales are such an important part of learning a string instrument. There are so many different rewards for practicing scales if you are willing to put in the hours to learn them. They are great for learning key signatures, learning new notes, master difficult fingering combinations and shifts, are great to warm up the fingers and most importantly teach us how to play in tune. The more you practice scales the better and easier all these tasks will become. We are basically training the tactile senses in our fingers to hit the correct place on the fingerboard. Also our memory becomes familiar with the scales and can recall a particular feeling when practicing that scale. A lot of music is based upon scales and if you are familiar with them, sightreading and general practice becomes an easier task.
